I dont mind that shot actually. I reckon it would look heaps better if u chopped the top off it too. Get the horizon above the centre of the shot, draw more attention to the foreground. Worth a try :) Keep it up mate.

Adrienne...

It's very clear to me that there are some people with very decent hardware that are experiencing problems that they shouldn't be. If my hardware is inferior to yours and I am lifting 24mp (36mb RAW) files effortlessly and with great speed, then there is clearly something wrong with this picture if you are not experiencing the same.

Adrienne - are you evaluating the trial, or did you purchase? I have noted that there seems to be an evolving pattern that a lot of the speed complaints are coming from people with decent hardware that don't have the unlocked version. I haven't a clue as to why that might make a difference, and it may be a coincidence. Could be the trial library is somehow hosed.

This WILL work itself out in short order, I am sure.

I'm in complete agreement with you on the chug chug chug of the application. Avicdar, not to play hardware wars, but I have a 2.93 8 core with 16GB ram, and it's notably slower than Aperture 2, esp in the brushes. Even simple things, like going from photo to photo in the viewer, give me more hiccups than 2.

That said, the workflow is very promising. I do wish they'd have included things such as brush sizing via right click (esp for us wacom users) and more convenient zooms, but my main complaint is speed. I guess there's still no perfect work flow solution, but it sure is promising.

Hi Jim - Yes, I was probably a bit harsh. I wrote a lot of the review while waiting for the retail version to arrive my mail. Still, I would have expected an import to probably take maybe 1.5 to 2 times the amount of time it would take to copy my library - so when it was taking 5+ times, I was annoyed :)

That said, I could agree more with you last statement - It is a great upgrade for all the small differences :)

Thanks for the overview. Surprised that you put the library conversion into the ugly column. Of course, importing the library from an exported project will take longer than simpler library conversion. One has to wonder why you didn't simply let Aperture convert it? Seems unfair to knock something that you went out of your way to make a longer process. :)

That being said, you're right to want to upgrade your RAM. My 8GB Mac Pro w/RAID is screaming along beautifully with Aperture. I don't mean that as a boast, but I am starting to see (not yours) blogs touting the lack of pro performance, when the hardware thrown at the problem is less than Pro. I digress.

My own 750gb library took overnight, and even after that there was some arbitrary rendering or something going on. Leaving the machine along for an hour or so after the conversion seemed to get the program happy and ready for work.

I couldn't be happier with this upgrade...and it's a lot of the small touches that are going to make a huge difference to my workflow.

thanks!
