About Ben Short

Ben ShortHi There, My name is Ben

An Information Technology professional by trade, I use photography as an escape from day-to-day work, to try and capture Tasmania’s raw beauty.

I am inspired by many of the great Tasmanian wilderness photographers before me including Olegas Truchanas, Peter Dombrovskis and their unique talent at capturing a wild and untouched state.

I have travelled most of Tasmania endeavouring to find “That Picture” and while I come close, I am still yet to take that photo. Most of travels are based in the south of the state but as time permits I venture into the North and West. The one area that has eluded me so far has been the North-East (Bay of Fires, Binalong Bay, Bicheno, Freycinet) and the Cradle Mountain Region. This I hope to change in the next year.

I typically shoot with my Canon Digital SLR typically using a Ultrawide or Normal Lens and a filter depending on the situation. I particularly enjoy long-exposure waterscape photography, which allows for a large dynamic in motion and colour in an image.

I also maintain an interest in film photography, particularly with older cameras and have recently added a 1960 Kodak Retinette 1B and a 1920 Contessa Nettel Cocarette folding camera to my collection. Both cameras are in working order and I plan to start expermenting with these soon.

Thank you for visiting my website, and I hope you enjoy my images as much as I did taking them.
