Though not strictly the last stop on the Maydena line, the Westerway station is one of last intact railway stations on this line. The rail line, known as the great western was built in the early 1900s to assist with mining & forestry operations in the area, with plans to extend the railhead as far as Macquarie Harbour. However with modern transport demand fell away for the rail service and eventually the line was closed past New Norfolk in 1995. It is hoped that one day a steam locomotives that were popular will travel this line once more to Mt Field.
